No Child Left Behind
NCLB was George W. Bush's education reform which became effective in 2002. The goal was to change education so that all children had to be taught the same material and meet the same standards and proficiency levels. It forced states to have assessments and every school was required to administer the assessments to students at certain grade levels in order to continue receiving federal funding. This was important to Bush's presidency because it is the stamp that he left behind on America; NCLB is the biggest change that Americans remember off the tops of their head when they think of George W. Bush.
Bush V. Gore
Bush V. Gore was the case that was heard in the Supreme Court where some argue that nine justices decided the 2000 election. Because of Bush winning by such a small amount of votes in Florida Democratic candidate Al Gore requested a manual recount in four, typically Democratic, counties hoping to close that small margin. But Bush believed that this recount couldn't be completed under the time constraints of the U.S. Code. The Supreme Court voted 5-4 in Bush's favor making George W. Bush the United States' 43rd president. This is important because it started off President Bush's presidency on a controversial note and this would make the people unsure of what Bush is doing which would make them unsupportive and Bush's plans would be less likely to succeed.
